Reflection: Random Acts of Kindness
Background:
Practice random acts of kindness and senseless beauty.
The Paper:
For your final reflection, I would like you to spend the next week practicing random acts of kindness and senseless beauty. Leave a sticky note on the bathroom mirror at school that says, “You look great!” Pay for someone’s Starbucks. Compliment a stranger on their outfit. Give your mom a kiss on the cheek and tell her you appreciate all she does for you. Leave an extra-big tip for your server. Stop to help someone who’s dropped papers in the hallway. Those are only a handful of ways you can show someone else that the world is beautiful — use your imagination to think of others! (Spending your own money absolutely isn’t required — there are plenty of ways to be kind without spending a penny.)
Once you’ve finished performing at least three random acts of kindness, write a short paper that discusses in detail what you did, why you chose to do it, and what the outcome was. If you did something for a stranger, you can talk about how it made you feel. Each act of kindness should get its own paragraph, and you can accompany your paper with pictures if you’d like!
