Nursing Informatics is a term used to describe the integration of nursing science with information and computer science, which has developed into a mandatory focus for all registered nurses on a global scale. For the past four decades, literature, research and a growing body of practice have addressed the theoretical and practical aspects of informatics in nursing.
In the 21st century, official organizations, schools, and continuing education which help prepare nurses for engaging in informatics and related practice, are springing up all over the world, in technologically advanced nations. There is a growing need for practicing registered nurses, nurse educators and researchers, and nursing administration to ensure that the expected competencies in informatics are met.
The PATCH online tool for self-assessment will aid you in meeting course objective #2, examining current and future technologies as they relate to the support of patient care, such as electronic health and medical records (EHR/EMR), patient monitoring systems, and medication administration systems. The self-assessment intends to give you a preliminary analysis of your current expertise and learning needs in the realm of informatics in nursing. The results are purely a professional development exercise in self-assessment/self-reflection for the purpose of helping you, if interested, in creating a personal learning plan for further education and practice.

Complete the online PATCH assessment & score yourself by using the PATCH scale
Reflect on your feelings about your PATCH score that you achieved in an APA 7th ed. formatted MS Word document with an introduction, a discussion of three major points, and a conclusion. The self-assessment document/reflection should include a scholarly reference, an APA 7th ed formatted title page and reference page.
